September 24

We have a number of items that are outstanding.  Check if your child has finished their nameplate, their hand art, who am I piece, Terry Fox piece, letter to me, rights and responsibilities poster.  Lots of students are done and caught up, but there are some missing items.  I will hopefully have complete lists later this week.  To go with our bottom of the ocean, I have referred the students to the movie The Martian.  Please note I am Not telling them to watch this movie.  It is rated PG.  There are a number of students who have seen it.  What I will do is bring in some screened clips from the movie to demonstrate some of the things they need to think about to live on the bottom of the ocean.  Most of the movie is irrelevant to our topic.

September 19

We are settling into our routines and settling into the school year.  We have done several ‘get-to-know-you’ projects and we have started out overall theme of Settling on the Bottom of the Ocean.  We have started making our packing list as well as making sure everything we are taking fits I. Our bin and it doesn’t weigh too much.
We have Library today (day 1) I forgot to remind students last night.  Today is also the scholastic deadline.  I won’t put the order in until later in the weekend, if you still wish to order, orders can be made online.
We completed our classroom treaty yesterday.  In Room 1, we believe in being respectful and responsible.  We will take care of ourselves, our classroom, and each other.

First full week of school

whew, it’s been quite a busy week.
Most students have finished their ‘All About Me’ one pager.  I am still waiting for a couple.  Hopefully I will have them all by Monday.  Today students wrote me a letter.  They could choose to write about anything they want.  Lots handed theirs in, the rest are due Monday.
As part of our Theme studies, students will be creating their own community. We voted today whether we were going to the Moon or the bottom of the Ocean.  We’ll find out Monday and we’ll start packing.  Everyone has settled in and this afternoon I did a seating plan, time to fix a few of the choices.
Next week we will be talking about Terry Fox and what it means to be a hero.

New School Year

Its a brand new school year and we are off to a great start.  We have done a couple get to know me activities already. The second one is now due.  They have had class time on two days to work on this.  The page needs to be filled with things about them and coloured with pencil crayon.   We don’t have agendas yet.  There was a problem with our order.  For now I will post items here.

Grade 5 Transition Permission Forms!

This morning we worked on math problems, and it was about money, fractions,and something else. When the bell rang,we went outside for recess. When we came in, we had Writing, and we worked on our “smart” area mini projects. After writing, we had French and we worked on our houses with French sentences. We did that until lunch. After lunch we worked on our science projects. In our science projects we are working on the human body. Later we had Music. In Music we talked about the WSO. Then we had our last recess. Later after recess we did our agendas while Ms. Pattie read us the book “Threads”. Our agenda message was, R.E.D.-Read Every Day. Grade 5 transition permission forms. May 23 track and field day. Extra Outdoor Recess!

This morning we did our dot-to-dot like thingy for the 2 first periods up to recess. After recess,we did our projects about our “smart” areas. After writing,we had french and we worked on our sentences for our house we’re going to do soon. We did that till lunch. After lunch we worked on our science projects about the body systems. After that we finally went to Music class. In Music we worked on some worksheets. After that it was our final last recess. After recess Ms. Pattie said if we were good we would get a surprise. We were good so we went outside for extra outdoor recess!! When we got back we did our agendas while Ms. Pattie read us the book “ Threads “. Our agenda message was, R.E.D.- Read Every Day. Music class!

This morning we did geometry bingo and a scavenger hunt for the first two periods of the day. We went outside for recess after that. When we came back inside, we worked on writing. Ms. Pattie introduced a new project that we had to do. It was about 4 projects that we had to do about our “smart” areas. We did that and writing for 2 periods. After that,we had our lunch. This afternoon we started off doing our science projects. After our science projects we went to Music class! In Music class we listened to some WSO music. After Music we went for our last recess. This morning we worked on our coat of arms geometry piece. We had to draw a symbol that represents us,then we had to draw stuff about our island from a few months ago. We also had to draw shapes. We did it for the first two periods. After that, we had recess. When we came in from outside,we had Physical Education and we played bench ball. After Physical Education, we worked on our  “Zoos” writing pieces. After writing,we had lunch. Later after lunch we worked on a booklet.        After the booklet we worked on our body system projects. Finally we went for our last recess. After recess we went to Library. This morning we had math and we worked on tan grams with a booklet and it was about making different shapes with the tan gram pieces.

Buddies!

This morning we did our Tangram thing again with the booklet we had. We did that for a while then we had recess. It was a very chilly recess. After recess,we had buddies and it was fun! After that,we  did our writing projects. We worked on our  “Zoos” writing and “I am a Winnipeger” writing pieces.

Presentations From High School!

 What we did this morning high school students came to do a presentation with us about respect and
they also brought books to read to us. We also did an activity with them with a poster paper,which was fun to do! We did that for the 2 periods before recess. The high schoolers also stayed to play with us outside! After recess, we did our on demand writing projects. When we were done,we worked on our science booklets. Then we had lunch. After lunch we watched some science videos about the body. Later we had Physical  Education in our classroom while reading books. A Normal Day Or Was It?

We stared are morning with math groups and later we went to our first recess of the day. We had Physical Education in the Gym right after first recess. We worked on L.O.G.S.- Low Organized Games. We came back to writing as usual. In writing we were working on our zoo writing piece if we are for zoos or against zoos. We then ate our lunch and it was indoor recess since it was raining. After lunch we watched some videos about the human body systems. After we were done most of the videos we moved onto our science projects. Right after we went for our last recess. After last recess we went to the Library. Finally after Library we went back to our classroom and did our agendas. While we were doing our agendas Ms. Pattie read us some of the book “ Threads “. A Rainy Afternoon!!!!!!!!!!!!!

“Good morning students it is day 4 on the school day cycle please stand for the singing of O Canada”. We sing “O Canada and started our day. Today we didn’t do our math groups we did some problem solving. When we finished we went outside for our first recess. When we came back from recess we had buddies. Later that day we worked on a writing piece and the  piece, was if we were for zoos or against zoos. We then had lunch and went outside for lunch recess. When we came back from lunch recess we presented our history presentations. Ms. Pattie said if we didn’t bring or finish our projects today that we would have to bring it tomorrow(May 2). “ Beep beep beep beep beep, there is outdoor recess this afternoon”. It’s drizzling and we are going to go outside. After recess we did our agendas while Ms. Pattie read us “Threads”. After we were done our agendas we would work on handwriting. A New Bell!!!!!!!!!!

“ Beeeeeep “ a new bell rings. We head to our classes and start our day with that new bell that just rang. We come to our classroom and we see a substitute. The substitute’s name was Mr. Minor. We sing “O Canada” and listen to the announcements. We then go to do our math groups. We went outside for our first recess.  We had time in the afternoon to put finishing touches on our projects.  Presenting starts tomorrow.

No School Friday Again?

Today we started off with a Math problem.We did 4 levels of the same problem. We did that for about 2 periods. We went outside for recess. We came back to go to our buddies classroom. We read a history book and 1 other book. We went to our classroom and did some writing on zoos if we are for zoos or against zoos. W then ate our lunch and went outside for lunch recess. We worked on our Theme projects that are due May 1st. We went outside for our last recess today. After recess we did our agendas p. Our agenda message was R.E.D.- Read Every Day. The Hot Day Of Spring!!!!!

This morning we worked on a Math problem that we worked on after Spring break and reviewed the math problem till recess. Our 1st recess arrived that day. It felt like a sun shining down on us with a nice wind. Later after recess we got our writing out and worked on “ I Am A Winnipeger” writing piece. We then worked on some French. We listened to a song and then we worked on a book in French called,” Le Secret De Chat”. We had had lunch. We went outside for our 2nd hot recess. We came back from recess and worked on a science project. The project was a system from your body. We were put in groups of 4 for our projects. We had Music and worked on a worksheet about how many beats were in a bunny. We went outside for our last really hot recess. We did our agendas. Our agenda message was R.E.D.- Read Every Day. Research for presentation should be finished. Book review due April 22. No school Friday. The best thing at school today was         because           . After agendas we were working on our handwriting in a IPICK chapter book and started handwriting where we were at in the book. While we were working on that Ms. Pattie read us “BEARHAVEN” . We did our 5 jobs and got ready for Physical Education. In Physical Education in the Gym we worked on Volleyball. We left the school and went home. What a hot day!!!!

Clay Pots!

 “ Line up on the green wall we’re going to our buddies classroom” said Ms. Pattie. The Winnipeg Jets are playing hurray. Lots of excitement was right in front of your eyes. We walked to our buddies classroom excitedly. We sang “ O Canada” and yelled Truth North loudly. We started our day off working on our clay pots. North Star told us to go to a lunchroom and sit down at a spot and not to touch anything. North Star told us to feel some clay that we had in front us of us. We then smelt the clay and told North Star what it smelt like. We started dropping the clay on the table and we did that for 5 minutes. We made a sphere out of clay ad stuck our thumbs in and pinched the clay into a pot shape. We were finished and we made 2 in the end because 1 was for the POW-WOW and 1 for ourselves. Next it was recess. After recess we had buddies. We read our buddies a research book and our buddies read us 2 books. Next after buddies we wrote what we did with North Star. Later it was lunch. We ate our lunch and went out for recess. After lunch we learned about Tready. We went for recess. We did our agendas while Me. Pattie read us a book. Next was Physical Education. What a nice day to do clay pots.

R.E.D. -Read Every Day!

 Today we did our math groups as usual. Recess was next. We started picking if we are for zoos or against zoos. We put our name on the back of a sticky note and on the front yes or we would put no. Yes for if your for zoos and, no if your against zoos. Later that day we had lunch. At lunch time there was, food fights, kicking and yelling. Ms. Palmer came here in the room and we had a talk about staying for lunch is a privilege not a right.  After lunch Ms. Pattie also talked about lunch wth us. After Ms. Pattie talked with us Ms. Pattie showed us a video about Treaty. Next after the video we had Music. In Music class we worked on a work sheet about a story we listened to last class. Finally last recess arrived. Later we did our agendas. Our agenda message was R.E.D.- Read Every Day. White out Wednesday. Colouring sheet due this week. Book review due April 22. The best thing at school today was             because         . Physical Education was last period but before that Ms. Pattie read us “BEARHAVEN” and we did our 5 jobs. In Physical Education in the Gym we are working on volleyball. What we really need to work on is to R.E.D.- Read Every Day.

Back From Our Weekend

This morning we went to our buddies classroom before “O Canada”. We meet North Star there and sang “O Canada”. North Star showed us a power point on clay pots. After the power point  North Star read us a book called “Clay Sings”. At 10:00 o’clock our classroom went back to the classroom and for the last 30 minutes we worked on decimals. We added,subtracted and Ms. Pattie wrote a number and we wrote the words. Next was recess. Physical Education in the Gym arrived. We were working on volleyball. We finally worked on some Cinquains. We wrote 6 to 8 of them. Lunch was right after writing. After lunch we worked on our Theme projects for 2 periods. Recess was awesome. There were 4 tether balls. After recess we had Library. Every one could pick three books in total. Later we did our agendas while Ms. Pattie read us some of “ BEARHAVEN”. Finally we did our 5 jobs and went home. What a nice day back from the weekend.

A Normal Day Or Not

Math already? How many times do we have Math? I definitely know that we need to do Math or our education will be ruined. 2 periods of Math and off to recess we go. Writing was after recess as usual. In writing we were working on our worksheets on Zoos Pros Or Cons and Zoos: Through The Ages. French was hard for somebody and easy for somebody. In French we worked on a book in French and tried to translate the book in French. Lunch was short until lunch recess. In the afternoon we did our agendas while Ms. Pattie read us “BEARHAVEN “ like any other day. Our agenda message was, R.E.D.- Read Every Day. New math calendar today. Book review due April 22 2019. Library Monday. The best thing at school today was          because           . After agendas was Music. We played the recorder. Recess arrived. Next after recess was Theme. We worked on our project that’s due at the end of the month or even into May. Before we go home we are reminded that the marathon starts on Monday for grades 4&5. Finally home time arrived. What a fun different day.

The Cold Blizzard

Brrrrrr what a cold morning. We started off with our math groups. The first recess of the day came. After recess we had buddies. Our buddies read us 3 books. We read our buddies 3 books if we had time and, if we read all of the books our buddies would get 3 more books. Later after buddies Ms. Pattie was teaching us how to research for our Theme assignment. Lunch has arrived! Lunch was short and after was that cold blizzard half an hour recess. We came back from recess and got straight back to work. We worked on our Theme project for a double period ( 2 periods). Last recess was so cold that if you were on the top of the hill you could almost be full blown away. We did our agendas while Ms. Pattie read us “BEARHAVEN “. Last of all we left for our home.

Experiments

 The wonderful morning how could I think of it. We sang O Canada and we went straight to Math. Ms. Pattie showed us how to play some decimal math games. Next was recess. After recess we went into a Writing. We continued to work on our Pros and Cons worksheet. Later on we had French. We are working on a our house or apartment in French. Next lunch arrives. After lunch we did our agendas. In our agendas we wrote R.E.D.- Read Every Day. Spelling done except catchups. Book review due April 22 2019. Library Monday. The best thing at school today was           because            . After agendas we had Music. We played our scales on the recorder from low C to high C. Recess arrived. Later after recess was experiments. We did 4 experiments. 1. Red Bull And Milk,2.Elephant Toothpaste,3. Lemon Volcano, and last we did a Lava Lamp. It was the end of the day. We did our 5 jobs and went home. What a fun day with experiments!!

Hello,Cold Again

This morning we went to our buddies room, and we learned about clay pots with North Star.We did that for the first two morning periods.Before recess,Ms.Pattie got us started a math problem.After that,we had recess,and it was very chilly. When we were all settled in,we continued the math problem.We did that for 1 period.Then for the next period,we read zoo books and we did a sheet after about that zoo book.So we did that until lunch. Lunch was good but recess was very chilly just as chilly as a frozen ice cube. After the freezing chilly recess we looked at our experiment with the egg in vinegar and wrote notes on what we saw. We did that for 10 minutes then we hopped into Theme. Ms. Pattie talked to us about the timeline of life and we’re  assigned to do a project about it. The projects are do in 3 months. After that period we had Physical Education in the Gym. Next was recess. It was a little bit warmer but still very chilly. Ms. Pattie read us “BEARHAVEN” while we did our agendas. The agenda message was
R.E.D Read Every Day. Spelling is done but if you are not done all the ones we are assigned we have to catchup. Book review due April 22 2019. The First Day Back From Spring Break!

This morning we worked on decimals amd also place value.We worked on that for the first 2 periods.
After that,we had recess.Then we had writing.We learned about haikus and wrote our own in our
writing notebooks.After writing,we had french.Ms. Pattie handed out a paper and it had a bunch           of French words on it.We had to find out what they meant in English.So we did that until lunch. After lunch we had Theme. We are working on an experiment and estimating what would happen after a egg has been in vinegar for 5 days. We are now writing notes on the experiment and predicting what will happen in 5 days. Next we had Music. We practiced our scales on the recorder from high “C” to low “C”. We did “Just Dance” for 5 minutes until we had recess. After recess we did our agendas. Ms. Pattie read us a new read aloud and the book is called “BEARHAVEN”. Last we had Physical Education in the Gym. I can’t believe how fast Spring Break was. The first day back from Spring Break how amazing.

Back to school!

 This morning we did a desk switch and we got to choose where we got to sit and the desks were already moved by Ms. Pattie.We didn’t have math groups this Time. We worked on our zoo work sheets instead of our math. After the morning recess,we had writing and we edited our own writing pieces.Then we had lunch time as usual. After lunch we did some talking about the 7 teachings. Ms. Pattie read us some affection. We wrote the meanings of the 7 teachings and how the animal connects to the meanings. Next we had physical education. We did low organized games because we were done skiing and ringette so we get a easy week. There was recess. We finished our 7 teachings writing and went to our agendas. Ms. Pattie read us the rest of “The Broken Blade”. After Ms. Pattie didn’t tell us what’s going to happen after so it was a surprise. Before long we did our 5 jobs. You might be wondering what is our 5 jobs? 5 jobs is when we, put our pencils in the pencil box so Ms. Pattie could sharpen them over night,2nd we stack our chairs, 3rd we bring our back-pack to our desks,4th we get our outdoor gear on, finally we put our white bins away. Our white bins is like a desk. We keep it under our chair. Home time has arrived. Back to school tomorrow again!

Today’s fun day

This morning we did our math centers and there was 3 centers as usual. After recess,we had gym and we went skiing. Then we went to the gym to check out the WE fair projects with our grade 1 buddies.
Next we did writing for 15 minutes. After that,we had lunch. Choir students walked to an elderly folk home. While that was happening the rest of the class was working on our Victorian houses. The following was recess. We had library and we picked 3 books if we returned our other books. Just before the end of the day we did our agendas. We got prepared for our conferences. What a fun and interesting day.

Today’s amazing day

Today was an amazing day! This morning we did math for the first two periods. We had 3 math centers. We had a class meeting about our new poster games to share with our grade 1 buddies in 3rd period. After recess, we had buddies and we played our postered board games. We are working on our Order and Sequence  biography or our  Compare and Contrast Who Would Win writing paragraphs. Then we had lunch what an amazing morning! After lunch we started our Victorian house drawings. After last recess we did our agendas then handwriting. We had Physical Education and we did skiing. Next was home time. What an amazing day.

January 14

A new year, new things to learn, and a new attempt at keeping this blog up to date.  We are in our second week back from holidays and we are mostly back into our routines.  In math we are moving into division.  We are learning a new strategy using multiplication and subtraction.  Most agree that it’s easier than the way their parents learned.  We’ll keep working on it.  Knowing our multiplication facts help, no matter which way we solve the question.
