January 28

Today was a great we had jungle gym.  Jungle gym is where Mr. Mackenzie (our gym teacher) sets up a climbing frame, a climbing net some ropes to swing on and he sets up a sport - basket ball or hockey. We also had math; in math we did division. There were these work sheets that we had to do. After recess we had french. In french we practiced a play called Un Jour Bizarre. After lunch we had theme. In theme we did some place value stuff. Nowwe are getting ready to go home bye.

January 27

To start the day off we had math and in math we did some division it was so FUN. After that we had gym, in gym we did a running test, when we were done we were so TIRED. We wrote stories about Lake Winnipeg, we were so EXCITED to create our own stories. After lunch we had theme and in theme we got to write about weather, but the fun thing was we had to use a song or rap. After recess we presented our songs/raps. Now we have reading our new book. Have a GREAT day. BYE!!!!!!!!!!

January 26

Today was awesome! For first period we had music. In music we did a lot of stuff. Second period and both periods after recess was writing. Yeah. In writing we did three say somethings and one written response. After lunch we had theme, and in theme we wrote about major weather, like a Tornado. Anyways, the next thing we did was have a class meeting, and now Miss. Pattie is reading us a book.

Book Reviews due on Monday!

January 25

Today we started the day off with problem solving. Miss Pattie handed us a sheet with a problem on it that we were supposed to solve. After that, she gave us another sheet of problems. There were 6 problems in total. After recess, we had French. We went over the first 6 lines in the play 'Un jour bizare' that we had to practice last week. Now we have to practice the 1st page. After lunch, we had Theme.We presented the weather measuring projects we made during the weekend. After that, we went outside to test our projects. Then we had recess. After, we did agendas and now Miss Pattie is reading us a book. Next we have GYM!!

January 22

Did you know that the science fair is coming up? Sign up sheets are handed out today. But for now, let's talk about our day. First we had math. We had to decode a math sheet. The riddle is "did you know what happened to the male and female that were stuck in the spinning door?" The answer was " to this very day, they still go around with each other". After math we had writing. We did "Text detectives." The book was called "Bullfrog Pops." After library we had music. Choir members had to place tape on where they stand. After lunch, we had theme. We had to do a diagram of weather disaster with writing about severe weather disasters. Right now Ms. Pattie is reading " Judy Blume." When Ms. Pattie is done reading, we will end the day off with gym. Remember the weather station project.

January 21

Today we got home work. We started the day off with music then we went to buddies but instead of reading we got to go on the i pads and go on tumble books. After  recess we had writing, and what we did in writing was work on these posters about weather sayings. Then we had health, and in health we did plays about kidnapping. After lunch we had theme. In theme we watched a video about weather reporters. We learned that they use six main tools. After recess we talked about what our homework was. We have to make two tools that can be used to measure weather. Now we are reading.

Weather Station Challenge

Our Plan for a Weather Station

First term this year we discovered and settled an island.  We explored it and set up a society of 24 people.  Things have been going pretty good on our island.  We want to figure out a way to predict weather, so we can make plans like farming and sailing.

We know that to forecast weather, scientists use 6 aspect of weather.  Wind Speed (anemometer), Wind Direction (Wind Vane), Air Pressure (Barometer), Precipitation Amounts (Rain Gauge), Temperature (Thermometer), Humidity (Hydrometer).

Our challenge is to figure out a way to measure as many of these aspects of weather that we can, using the materials we have on our island or that we brought with us.  We are starting to wish we had packed better - like bringing a thermometer!  This means we have to use things we find around the house.  We can replace wood/trees with cardboard.

We can look at pictures of the instruments, but since we don’t have those materials - we need another plan.  

Wind Direction and Precipitation amounts are pretty easy we think.

We’re not going to worry about trying to make a thermometer.

An anemometer is probably at a medium level of difficulty.

But Barometers and Hydrometers will be difficult - not impossible.

For the Barometer and Hydrometer we don’t need to be exact, but can we tell if the air pressure and humidity are going up or coming down.

By Monday morning our challenge is to bring to school, two weather instruments that work. The higher the level of difficulty for the instrument, the more lea-way we have.

This is not a parent project, you can advise, but the students are the ones having to solve the problem and figure things out.

January 20

Today we had math.  We dd a worksheet called Crack the Code.  Then we had gym.  We played Race Beanbag.  After recess we had theme.  We watched a slide show about the weather.  Then we had a presentation from The Lake Winnipeg Foundation.  After lunch we worked on finishing up a few assignments that were due.  Thank you for reading.

January 19

Hey! today we're back with the blog, we had a VERY busy day. First thing in the morning we had math , it was AWESOME , we did division by doing multiplication. We had gym after math, we played Body Ball, it was fun. We had french in French we did gestures with our 12, 7 and 4 o clock partners. After lunch we did a piece of writing on what we like to do in a Winnipeg winter, we wrote about three paragraphs. Then we had reading.

We are learning and practicing a play in French.  We have been working on the first 6 lines and their gestures.

January 18

First thing today was MATH! We had a class meeting and talked about the changes that we should make. After recess we had writing and in writing we read a book called Owl Moon and we wrote up a list of things of what we noticed as Miss Pattie read. After lunch we had music and theme. We had recess and did our agenda, and now Miss Pattie is reading us a book.

January 15

Today is Friday!! We started off the day with problem solving. Then we had a 10 minute outdoor recess. After that, we had a presentation by Constable Orlando Budahan. When we came back we had 10 more minutes until lunch so we took out our I P.I.C.K. books and read. After lunch, we had Theme. We used an app called Adobe Voice to make a video on The Water Cycle. On Adobe Voice you pick icons to represent what you're talking about and record your voice. Now we are about to play Dodgeball in gym. We hope you have a good weekend because we will!! :)

Online Safety

Today, Cst. Orlando Buduhan came in to talk to the grade 4/5s about being safe online.  

- The difference between public and private information.  

- Discussion about rules that they have when they are online at home.

Our constable suggests that every home should have a rule that devices shouldn't be going into the bedrooms at night.

- social networking safety

1.  Make responsible decisions online.  Once something is out there, it is out of your control.  

2.  Stop and take a break.  We're on our devices way to much, it's not good for our body health.

3.  Do not believe everything you see or read.

4.  Online security, terms and conditions on apps, when we don't read these, we are unaware of what information we are handing over when we are clicking 'agree'

5.  Make your accounts private.  Turn off location settings.

January 14

Today was a good day! We started off with math, we played a game with a paperclip. Then we had writing. In writing we worked on our Holiday piece. After recess we had library, we picked out new books. Before lunch we had music, we played a song called "Chariots of Fire" on our recorders. After lunch we had theme, we learned about the water cycle. We decorated a ziplock bag with clouds and the ocean, and then put water in it and taped the bags to the window. We are going to see how long until the water evaporates. After recess we had reading, Ms Pattie read us a book. Then we had gym.

January 13

Today we did everyone's properties of air project but before all of that, we learned a new song we played on the recorder in music. It's called "Chariots Of Fire." After music we had buddies. After recess we had writing.We talked about being a good peer editor. Next up after writing was health. We talked about different kinds of lures. Then we got partners and pick one of the lures and we have to act it out. Now let's move onto theme. We watched videos of water and air. We are having writing again right now because Ms Pattie has a meeting and we have Ms Steuart.

January 12

Today we did a science project on air. We started the day off with math.Then we had gym and played a new game called body ball. It's similar to team handball. After recess we had french. after lunch we did a science project on air. We each had to do one property of air and do an experiment. now we are reading Judy Blume.

January 11

We had a BUSY  day. To start the day off we had math we played a math game. After math we had  gym, in gym we played a pin game where you had to hit the other teams pins down. Then we had writing and we wrote about our holidays. After lunch we learned about air then we had to plan a project which we're presenting tomorrow.  After indoor recess we continued writing about our holidays. Then we wrote in our agenda.

January 8

Today is FRIDAY! Yay! In the morning we had music and writing,we wrote about our holiday. After recess we did theme, and in theme we did a play. Well, Miss. Pattie split us up into two groups and each group did a play about the explorers. We had lunch and we had writing for two periods before last recess. After recess we had a class meeting. Now Miss. Pattie is reading us a book. HAVE AN AWESOME WEEKEND!!!! ^-^

January 7

Today we started off with problem solving for two periods. Then we had recess. After recess we had french. We worked on words and gestures.  Then we had lunch. We had theme after lunch, in theme we studied vikings and the french. Then we had recess. after recess we had reading and gym.

January 6

Today we got a new student in the class. In math today, we got our white boards out and we did some multiplication. One of the questions was 678 x 964. Next we had writing. We got into our book club groups and shared our connections. After recess we had library, then we had music. We had to sing a rap song and got to 142 b.p.m. After lunch we had theme. We had to read a booklet about aboriginal jobs. One of the booklets was called "The Broken Toe".  We had to draw the jobs the aboriginals did. Now Ms.Pattie will read us "Terror In Winnipeg" before gym.

January 5

Today we had music first period. We talked about the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra. After music we had buddies. In buddies we have grade 1's read to us and we read to them. After recess we had writing, we wrote about our Christmas break holiday. We had health before lunch and discussed being safe, and about being a good friend. After lunch we had theme, we researched the Fur Trades on our ipads. After recess Miss Pattie read a book to us. Today is early dismissal!  

January 4, 2016

Today we started a new program called Aim. We started the day off with math. Then we played a game in gym called Dodgeball basketball. When you get hit by a ball you have to go to the other team's mat and try to shoot a ball in a basket ball net. If you get the ball in the net you get to go back to your side and continue the game.After recess we had french and started a new program called aim in aim they put actions to french words to help us learn them. That was our day thanks for reading.


Students are working on an outline for a new piece of writing - three things they did on holidays.  These outlines should be done.
